Saturday is Suggest a G1 Transformer Day

Every Saturday, I'm going to try and have a post open for YOU to give me a suggestion for which Transformer I should try to get next! Leave your suggestions in the comments section. Then on Wednesday, I will have a poll up of the four suggested figures I liked most. Maybe I'll pick the ones that got the most suggestions, or pick the coolest ones. I have no idea how this works, I'm just flying by the seat of my pants here!

Then, the poll will be up till the following Saturday. The one the wins will be the next one I track down. It may not be the next figure featured on the site, but I will have an update when said figure has been purchased.

Man, there's a lot of transformers out there.

Transformers Knock-Offs Scare the Living S*** Out of Me!

Holy crap! There's a bunch of sneaky knock-offs out there. I almost got dooped into buying an Optimus Prime and a Grimlock for what I thought was an amazing deal! They were in what looked EXACTLY like their original packaging. Turns out they were awesome fakes. GAWD DAMN IT!

The Optimus figure has a grey border around the entire window which was how I determined it was fake, as well as the alignment of the "Transformers" logo at the top was off. Grimlock said Boommander instead of Commander.

Close call. I reported the seller as a douchbag mc-sneaky thief, and I hope they get their ass banned pronto! I sure hope I don't end up getting a fake someday and never realizing it.

Sky Lynx Just Flew In

G1 Transformers continue to rock my face off.

Well, here he is. Sky Lynx! I have to say, this is pretty fricken awesome. A coin collector on eBay had like 3 Transfomers he was unloading. When I got it, it was wrapped in a plastic protective sheet, re-enforced with bubble wrap. The thing looked like brand new. Hell, it looks like it's in better condition that stuff I've seen out at Wal-Mart lately. In his auction, he listed "electronics not tested" which is just a sly way of saying, "this shit don't work." Well, I put batteries in it and it worked like a charm. Everything was is in tact, no rips or cuts on the box, and it's complete.

Pretty damn good coming from a guy who sells nickels.

So, the story with Sky Lynx is that, well, he's the one I never had. I wanted him and I begged and begged, and he never showed. Not even at a rummage sale. He goes in the same group as Trypticon, Transformers that were just a little too expensive. GOD I wanted him.

Well, 24 years later, I got to open him up and it felt pretty damn good.

Stay tuned for my next Transformer!

The Next Trasformer Is...

Well, the picture is your hint! Thanks to everyone who voted!

Terrible photoshop is terrible, I know.

Stay tuned, I'll snab him up and do a story as soon as I can!

Moving Out

I have lived at my current place for four years. My landlord is a douche nozzle. I will finally be rid of him in 9 days. No more ceilings falling in. No more black mold. No more falling through my front stairs. No more feeling like the place I live is slowly killing me. Yes, I'm moving on, and moving up to a better place. Finally, I'll be able to display my Transformers without the constant worry of  a shitty place caving in on itself and destroying everything I love.

Also, I'll have a toilet that doesn't feel like it's going to go crashing through the goddamn floor when I sit on it. Yes, it's that bad.

Another Day, Another Powermaster

Here's Doubledealer! I snabbed him off of eBay and I swear it came in the mail just 1 day after paying. Super kudos to that seller!

Doubledealer came complete and minty fresh! He had his instructions, and the tech spec card had been cut out, but included. No points though. I think I'll try to buy figures with their tech specs and points in tact. I assume Doubledealer originally came in a glued on cardboard bubble. He came loose in the box, so I decided to make a styrofoam cube for him. It displays much nicer! Too bad I carved it having him face the wrong way! I think it would have looked better facing to the left, but oh well.

So here's a free tip! If you would like to make a styrofoam block insert without having to hunt all over your house for one to widdle down, go to Wal-Mart and buy an archery target. It's a HUGE block of styrofoam you can cut down as needed. I could probably make 24 blocks this size out of the one I bought.

Doubledealer was special to me because he was the only Transformer I had along with me on a very long transition from moving back to the states from Guam. All my transformers were either packed up in storage, or too hard to get to. My family and I were on the road for what seemed like forever. This transformer was purchased while we were on the road, and he went everywhere with me. How convenient that he was an autobot AND a deception. Not to mention he came with two partners and a huge ass missile that turned into a gun. Yes, this transformer was, and still is, very very awesome.

Enjoy the pics, and stay tuned for the next one. It's gonna be awesome.

One Ring, A Lot of Tranformers

This isn't the first time I've tried to collect toys from my past. Nope! In 2006, I decided to try collecting G1 Transformers, but I was so excited about it I didn't care about if they were in good condition or not. Rummage sales, cheap eBay auctions, more rummage sales...that's how I acquired them. In 2008, I had a pretty nice collection. Problem was, I had an ever BETTER girlfriend and I needed to pony up the dough for a ring. A NICE ring. So, I ebayed the whole set for just a little over $3000. The picture you see above was the actual auction photo. There's more below. What kind of ring did I get you ask?

A blue diamond ring, with a bunch more diamonds on it. I don't remember how many! Best trade I've ever made! Even better, my wife is the one that gave me the idea to get all my figures back, but to buy nice ones, and not rummage sale quality ones. That's why I married her!

More pics of the set I sold in 08.

Apparently, Optimus Prime Needed MORE GUNS!

Here it is, Powermaster Optimus Prime. This is the first original figure in box I have ever purchased. I have to say, I am very pleased. I paid the ebayer a day after the auction, and it took 13 days to arrive. The wait was killing me! Fricken slow ass shippers...

I would give backgrounds to these figure, but I don't have the time or the patience to do so. Research: I don't do it. What I can tell you is that I remember when I originally got it when I was 6 years old, and completely lost my shit. I played the snot out of it, and never got tired of popping the little dude in and out of Optimus's chest. Yes, my dad was a superhero that day.

So I took this one over to show my dad to watch the memories flow back. He told me that he remembered when he went to Kmart to buy it, that my grandma said it was "too much toy." She might have been right, but that was coming from the grandama that bought me cat toys for Christmas, and I didn't have a cat. He also said he couldn't afford beer for 3 weeks after buying it. The sacrifices fathers make for their children...

Here's some more pics. I have 2 more figures on the way! Stay tuned to see which ones I got!

It's Never Too Late To Start Over, Right?

It's April 11th, 1987, and I just turned 5 years old. I unwrapped one of my very first Transformers, Hun-Grrr. This is the only picture of me with a Transformer, that I know of, that exists...well, as a child anyway.

I have decided to embark on a large mission. That mission is to aquire a full set of G1 Transformers (Series 1 - Series 5) and if that wasn't hard enough, I want their packaging too. I'm not looking for brand new sealed figures, and they don't have to be in pristine condition. They just have to look good, and not be broken, and be complete. I am by no means rich or have money to burn. This is going to be a slow, 1 or 2 a month process. Maybe more for the cheaper smaller figures.

My original collection from when I was a child was comprised of almost every Transformer out there. Between rummage sales and clearence, my parents tried to get as many of these awesome figures for me as they could. As fate would have it, in 1992, my toys were donated to a church auction without my knowledge. I was nowhere near the town the auction was in, I only heard about it after the fact. They were ALL sold. I'm sure someone got very lucky that day.

So here I am, starting from scratch. I already collect MOTU stuff, new and old, but not much. I collected Transformers Animated but that series is dead. So, I just decided I'm tired of spending my money on new toys. I want the old ones back.

My first figure will be arriving shortly...
